Rachel has always loved animals. Growing up she never had the usual dog or cat, but instead, fish, frogs, lizards, rabbits, and birds. She received her first bird of her own as a holiday gift when she was 8 years old, a cockatiel named Feathers, and her love and appreciation for birds has grown ever since. She currently has two birds, a Goffinโs cockatoo, Herman, and a Quaker parrot, Fritz.
Rachel discovered the Animal Behavior Center a couple of years ago when her cockatoo was having self-mutilation issues and was desperate to change his behavior. Through Laraโs help in The Parrot Project and Level I Membership, he is now doing much better. She continues to learn all she can to keep him thriving.
Rachel assists with enrichment and cleaning at the center and loves hanging out with the birds and learning everything she can from Lara, her fellow volunteers, and the animals.
