Eight years ago I had to put my dalmatian to sleep due to complications he was having with old age. He lived with me for fourteen years. Putting him down was one of the hardest things I have ever done and I mourned his death for years and still do. Two years ago I began wondering ifย ย it was time to get another dog.
There was information out there that was alarming to me. Both of my sisters had recently put their dogs down due to cancer. Before going out and bringing another dog home, I sat down and did my research on cancer rates in dogs. I found links, information, and questions all over the internet. This scared me! I dug deeper to find out what the cause or potential causes were for the statistics I was reading. I found a lot of information with what we are feeding our dogs as a common factor. What the heck am I supposed to feed my dog now seeing all of these concerns about the dog food.
I found a lot of people that now feed their dogs raw. I asked around to all of my veterinarians and got their opinions as well. I didn’t know where to begin and what to feed. I was so nervous about if what I was doing was right. I still don’t know if what I am doing is best but I made that decision based on the information I gathered. Afterย I felt comfortable with my decision, I brought home my first dog in years. I now have two dogs: Quincy and Levi. I still want more information and I want to hear the ‘why’ and ‘why not’s’.
It is for this reason that I am bringing in two internationally, highly respected speakers to our next Annual Event. Dr. Karen Becker is held in high regard in the dog world and animal world. She feeds raw and has written many books, but one particularly on feeding raw and how to healthfully feed a raw diet to dogs and where to begin.
Jason Crean is also highly respected in his area of expertise which is avian nutrition.
He feeds raw to all of the animals in his care and he travels nationally giving presentations to share this information. Dr. Becker and Jason will be giving a talk together on Feeding Raw Whole Foods To Our Animals.
