The celebrations of the Fourth of July can be pretty stressful for animals in our care. I did a Facebook live-stream for Coffee With The Critters a few weeks ago on this subject. It’s about an hour long, so if you can bear with me, I give a lot of tips and tricks I use throughout the year to get my animals ready for the unexpected noises, whether on the Fourth of July or not.

Last year I made arrangements and took my birds to a quiet town up the coast. Little did I know that the motel I selected (they take pets) is also used as housing for the homeless population in that town. I do not want to say that all homeless people would be like this – but this was my experience. Drugs and prostitution all night long – I got zero sleep. Although I thought I had gotten us away from the neighbors who like to put off M80s and M1000s, the people in the motel had more of these bombs than my neighbor usually has. My birds were VERY stressed about not being at home. It was a huge mistake!
